Last day of 2009

May it be last year or the year before that, it just so happens that unless you keep a daily diary, you can not remember all your good or bad moments. Some of the events seem so far away into the past that even if they do come into your mind, you have a hard time believing they happened in the last 365 days. All that you remmeber are things that you want to accomplish in the next 365 days. Hence, you jot down your new year resolutions.

I digress. So, naturally I can not rememeber all that I did last year, (extremely chersihed moments, truly horrifying days), but I do remmeber how my last day of the year 2009 went.
Here it is:

HIGHLIGHTS OF TODAY
  • The day started off pretty suddenly. I'd forgotten to tell my mom that I had to go early to uni today. Anyway, thankfully, I didn't miss my van, although I did miss my cup of coffee
  • Had a lab quiz. Had to write a program in assembly. Did one part of it which worked correctly so got good-enough marks.
  • Got marks for the same paper. Got 5th highest marks (thank God)
  • Couldn't go to the cafe today. Didn't have my cup of coffee at all today. :(
  • Didnot feel like going for afternoon classes. Got extremely bored.
  • Persuaded mum to order something for dinner. She agreed after a really long time.
  • Had pizza for dinner :)
  • Watched different people in different countries go out and celebrate New Year. Wished to be able to celebrate 2010 outside.
  • Saw the lunar eclipse on TV.
  • Wrote down how my last day went :)

Adieus 2009!

Welcome 2010!!

May u bring us many many joys!!

Paulo Coelho: The Witch of Portobello

Paulo Coelho has written this novel in the form of accounts taken from the different people who knew about Athena and some of the events which led to her being branded as the "The Witch of Portobello".
This book, like all his other novels that I have read, is about someone who tries to be true to be to herself and realize her fate. In this novel too, it is stressed that whatever the world thinks brings happiness is not necessarily true.
Paulo Coelho's books have always inspired me and have always been a sort of a reminder for me. In our lives, we lose ourselves; we become robots following a daily routine. We forget to appreciate ourselves, our loves ones, our lives as a whole. And Paulo Coelho, by his books, always reminds me to appreciate, and love, and be myself; who I really am and what I really want. And not only that, but to be consistent and strong and get what I want.

Dan Brown: "The Lost Symbol"

Another book containing the brilliant professor of religious iconology and symbology Robert Langdon, who is again on a mission to unravel a secret that has been hidden for centuries. This time, the secret revolves around Masonry.
This time though, Langdon has not been called by the authorities to solve the mystery but by the bad guy himself.
After reading the last two Langdon books, I found some of the moves and some of the twists predictable. Many times, I knew what was going to happen before it did. But, I was still hooked till the end because I did not know where the trail would end and what was it that all the clues were pointing to. And in the end, there was one aspect of the novel which truly amused me. I hope it amuses you too.
So, in my opinion, the book is worth reading, because even some things were predictable, there were many things that I learnt about, especially a branch of science I did not know existed but was nevertheless very interesting. If you want to know what it is, you'll have to read it.

Conclusion: Fall Reading Challenge

I know that I'm seven days late for the conclusion (I had papers, so did not have time). But I feel like I should because this challenge helped me out a lot.
I was only able to read three out of the five books. I read "The Picture of Dorian Gray", "Emma" and "The Lost Symbol". I started "Wuthering Heights" but was not able to finish and I could not find a copy of the fifth book.
This challenge helped in reading two classics which I otherwise would not have been able to even pick up. So, I owe my fall reading of classic novels to Katrina (Thank you Katrina) and I hope to take part in her other reading challenges.
Oh…I'm putting up my review of two books: "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown and "The Witch of Portobello" by Paulo Coelho. Do read!!

Hello everyone!
Well..these couple of months have been pretty rough as I strived to get my priorities straight and doing whatever I had planned to do (from doing good in university to doing some extra work). I just learnt that the only way I can get all this stuff done is by plunging right ahead and that's what I'm gonna do now. So brace yourselves because I'm soon coming up with the review of Dan Brown's "The Lost Smybol" :)
